Enoch Hoag, a member of Iowa Yearly Meeting, was appointed Superintendent of the Central Superintendency (Kansas and Indian Territory) in 1869 under President Grant's "Peace Policy." This gave supervision of the Indians in this area to the Orthodox branch of the Society of Friends. Jonathan Richards (principal of Haverford School, 1853-1857) served as an Indian agent for the Wichitas and affiliated bands at Wichita, Kansas from 1870-1876. He was appointed under President Grant's Peace Policy which officially gave the management of the Central Superintendency (all of Kansas and the Indian Territory) to the Orthodox branch of the Society of Friends.
